Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be held the Mennonite/Baptist Cemetery in Calico Rock, Arkansas.

    Paula Elaine Richardson, 67, of Coralville, died Friday, June 26, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Bettendorf. Celebration Of Life Service will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery.     Wade “George” Killian, 92, of Wellman died June 25, 2015, at Parkview Manor. A celebration of life service was held at Bethel United Methodist Church in rural Sigourney Sunday, June 28, with Rev. LuAnn Benge officiating. Burial was at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday evening, June 27, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.   • Next step for Kalona Community Center now underway

    Supporters for an expanded Kalona Community Center Monday will recommend the city council hire Martin Gardner Associates of Marion to do design and schematics leading to a bond issue in January, 2016.

    Monday, July 6 is the first day school board candidates may file nomination papers with their district’s board secretary. Filing deadline is 5 p.m. July 30. Elections, statewide, are Tuesday, September 8.

    Aside from okaying fireworks permits and first reading approval of the county code or ordinances update, the Washington County supervisors Monday mainly attended to fiscal year end business.
    The permits were for the Marion Avenue Baptist Church and for Fred Witt of Washington, all related to Fourth of July events.

    Class 2A top ranked Highland got off to a good start with three first inning runs.
    IMS would get a run back in the top of the second with a Hannah Haris RBI single that scored Rubey Ney to make it a 3-1 score.

    Mediapolis got on the board with two first inning runs on their way to a 14-5 win Thursday, June 25. IMS battled back in the third when Avery Blauvelt hit a two RBI triple to tie the game.

    IMS and Central Lee opened up play Saturday morning, June 27, to kick off the IMS classic.
    Central Lee took advantage of a couple IMS defensive miscues to take a 1-0 lead after an inning of play.
    Central Lee would plate three more in the second, and added two in the third to build a 6-0 lead.
