  • Golden Hawks down PCM

    Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (8-2) took to the road Wednesday and put down PCM Monroe 28-10 in the first round of Class 2A playoffs and advance to the second round Monday, November 2, traveling to Albia (10-0) for a 7 p.m. game. 

    Mid-Prairie Nolan Faselt was key in the win, as he pushed his way through the PCM defensive line play after play all evening. The first touchdown came about six minutes into the first quarter. Following Mid-Prairie's methodical drive downfield, Karson Duwa walked into the end zone. The extra point by Terryhn Jacoby was good to put MP on the boards 7-0.

    Mid-Priaire (7-2) will play PCM, Monroe (7-2) at PCM, Monroe Wednesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. in the Class 2A first round playoff.  Mid-Prairie beat Mediapolis Friday night 20-7 for third place in District 5 behind Williamsburg (6-3)  and district winner Central Lee (8-1).

    Other local teams in the playoffs in Class 3A playing Wednesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. include Clear Creek-Amana (5-4) vs. Maquoketa (6-3) at Maquoketa and Solon (5-4) vs. Washington (7-2) at Washington.

    With a playoff spot on the line following half time adjustments, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks erased the mistakes of the first half and had the fans out of their seats.
    Within the first five minutes Ricky Vargas found the holes and ran the ball twice for a total of 25 yards into the endzone and tied the score on a two-point conversion carry.
    That was the beginning of what turned into a Mid-Prairie explosion and a 43-point run. The 43-14 victory over Class 2A District 5 challenger West Liberty clinched a playoff spot for the Golden Hawks.

    The Class 2A District 5 matchup Friday at Mid-Prairie was a rollercoaster game for the Golden Hawks (5-2) and turned into a key district win for Central Lee (6-1).
    Central Lee matched the Golden Hawks play by play - and perhaps gave just a little more - to secure the 14-7 victory in a Class 2A District 5 barnburner.
    Central Lee ground off six minutes in their first possession of the game as they pushed their way down field.  Central Lee's Garrett Holtkamp ended the drive as he dove into the endzone and Central Lee took the lead 7-0.

    Class 2A top ranked Highland got off to a good start with three first inning runs.
    IMS would get a run back in the top of the second with a Hannah Haris RBI single that scored Rubey Ney to make it a 3-1 score.

    Mediapolis got on the board with two first inning runs on their way to a 14-5 win Thursday, June 25. IMS battled back in the third when Avery Blauvelt hit a two RBI triple to tie the game.

    IMS and Central Lee opened up play Saturday morning, June 27, to kick off the IMS classic.
    Central Lee took advantage of a couple IMS defensive miscues to take a 1-0 lead after an inning of play.
    Central Lee would plate three more in the second, and added two in the third to build a 6-0 lead.

    The IMS baseball team lost to each of their four opponents last week, the first game was at Highland Tuesday, June 23.
    Highland would put up one run in each of the first two innings and IMS’ only run would be at the end of the game in the seventh, scored by Kirby Shetler.

    The Mid-Prairie baseball team suffered a three-game losing skid last week after falling in both games of a double header as well as Cascade of Western Dubuque before winning over Durant.
    The boys were host to Tipton Monday, June 22, and in the first game they lost 6-7.
